The Power of Belief in Affirmations
There are common misconceptions about affirmations and how to go about using them. Whenever you think, read, or speak of an affirmation it should re-ignite a fire of passion that sparked the desire to change in the first place.
When utilizing affirmations you are planting seeds of possibility in your mind that will grow and manifest into the change you want to see in your life. Believing in the potential of these seeds is the cornerstone of building a foundation that will support you and the growth of your journey.
I often see and hear advice saying “repeat this x times to see results in x days” to that I say to consider this: It is much more impactful for you to craft affirmations that resonate with you and your unique journey, than it is to blindly repeat affirmations half heartedly.
It’s great to share affirmations and spread positivity through them, but I believe affirmations should be personal. A great exercise I like to participate in is to read or listen to the affirmations, or quotes of others, and allow their experience, wisdom, and perspective to flow into my perspective. Let their point of view inspire and spark inspiration inside of you that will empower you to make change that you can believe in.
Affirmation Effectiveness and Belief
A study conducted by Carnegie Mellon University (Creswell et al., 2013) found that self-affirmation activates brain regions associated with self-valuation and positive self-worth, leading to improved self-perception and decision-making.
According to a survey conducted by the Positive Psychology Center at the University of Pennsylvania, participants who regularly practiced positive affirmations reported a 30% increase in self-confidence and a 20% improvement in motivation over a 6-week period.
These studies illustrate the idea that your mindset and belief in your affirmations can be a powerful catalyst for change.
