Self-talk and affirmations have emerged as tools for navigating this demanding landscape we live in, enabling individuals to boost their resilience, stay focused, and continue pushing the boundaries of what's possible. The current world is not for the faint of heart, but with the right mindset and tools, you can thrive and keep growing.

In our journey for personal growth, affirmations are one of those tools that can empower, uplift, and motivate us to reach and strive for our goals. In this article we’ll have a look at a general rule of thumb when crafting affirmations. They go by the “The 3 P’s of Affirmations.”

The First P - Affirmations in the Present Tense

The first 'P' of affirmations stands for “Present.” When affirmations are crafted with a present tense in mind, it allows you to bridge the gap between your current self and your desired self, which will align your subconscious with your goals, trigger positive connections in your brain, and fuel inner motivation. This can be as simple as saying ”I AM successful!” over “I will be successful.” 

This subtle shift makes a huge difference. When you affirm something in the present tense, your mind will begin to accept it as your current reality. Through repetition you can reprogram your subconscious mind, making it more receptive to positive changes and opportunities, relating to your desires.

The Second P - Personalized Affirmations

The second 'P' emphasizes the importance of making your affirmations personal. Affirmations are most effective when they resonate and strike deep within you; your unique goals, desires, and values.

When affirming, you want the affirmation to spark all of the thoughts, emotions and desires you were thinking about when you first created them. Highly personalized affirmations are more likely to set off alarms in your brain, reminding, and realigning you with your long term goals and desires.

While general affirmations like "I am confident" are helpful, tailoring them to your specific needs can have significantly more impact, such as “I am confident in my entrepreneurial skills” “I am successful in everything I do.”

The Third P - Positivity

The third 'P' of affirmations is positivity, maintaining a positive mindset throughout your personal growth journey is critical to sustainable growth. It’s one of those things where it’s easier said than done. It’s easy to be positive when everything is going well, but what if things are a bit rocky? Will you fold and collapse, or will you pick yourself up and try again? It’s important to remember the duality of things; rough patches always lead to greener pastures, and vice versa. The terrain, and environment don’t matter, your mindset when traversing does.  

Throughout the day, whenever negative thoughts creep in, counteract them with positivity. Over time, this practice will help you develop a more optimistic outlook on life, boost your self-esteem, and increase your resilience in the face of challenges.
